Artist's Description

Fort McHenry is a star-shaped fortification that was built in 1794-1803 for the defense of the city of Baltimore, Maryland. Its only battle occurred during the War of 1812, when British ships bombarded it September 13-14, 1814 in order to attack Baltimore. The fort held, and it became the birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner, when Francis Scott Key wrote the words to what would become the US National Anthem after witnessing the British bombardment. In September every year the fort celebrates Defenders Day with a reenactment of the British attack. Here reenactors march off in formation on a detail while a woman in period costume follows.

About William Kuta

William Kuta

The icons along our National Mall served as the backdrop for my first career in Washington, DC. Now they are some of the photographic subjects for my second career. I specialize in the DC region, the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast, with other excursions near and far. My work has appeared in magazines, travel guides, textbooks, newspapers and other media, and now I am making selections available for art prints. The first galleries are my own subjective selections--my Top 100 photos and Top 50 art from photos. The next galleries are my photos in various categories. The final galleries are my "Art from Photos", with digital manipulations of selected photos. Zoom in to see the effects. CONTACT ME if there are related images you would like...
