Description
Checkers table in the library at the Lincoln Cottage. President Lincoln's Cottage at the Soldiers Home opened to the public on February 19, 2008, after a seven-year restoration. President Abraham Lincoln, wife Mary, and sons lived there from about June-November in 1862-1864, to escape the Washington summer and the hectic White House life, about three miles away. The cottage gave Lincoln and family much-needed respite, and was where he did much of his writing and planning.
